Peristiwa ini dibenarkan oleh kasubag Humas Polres Muaro Jambi, AKP Amradi.
Kepada media Kasubag Humas menjelaskan, kejadian ini bermula ketika pemilik gilingan padi bernama Hermansyah bin Anang Sayuti (50) tahun sekira pukul 15.00 wib selesai menggiling padi dan mematikan mesin, kemudian sekitar pukul 15.30 wib Hermansah meninggalkan gudang dalam keadaan terkunci dan pergi berbelanja ke warung. Setelah berbelanja dalam perjalanan ke rumah orang tuanya di Muara Kumpeh, korban dihampiri oleh saksi Adi (Keponakan korban), sambil mengatakan bahwa gudang padi milik korban kebakaran.
”Mendapat informasi tersebut, korban kembali ke gudang dan api telah membesar pada bagian tengah atap bangunan.
Sementara kerugian material yang dialami korban berupa satu unit bangunan semi permanen ukuran 10 m x 8 m, 1 unit mesin dompeng, 1 unit mesin giling padi, 1 unit mesin cuci beras, beberapa karung padi, beras, dedak serta barang-barang perabotan lainnya.
“Total kerugian Lebih kurang sebesar Rp. 50.000.000,- (lima puluh juta rupiah), untuk penyebab kebakaran masih belum diketahui," pungkas Akp Amradi.
