Dalam Pemilihan Kepala Daerah untuk memilih Gubernur  dan Wakil Gubernur Jambi, Kapolres Merangin mengajak wartawan untuk menciptakan suasana yang sejuk dan damai.
Dalam kegiatan menjelang sore itu selain dihadiri Kapolres Merangin AKBP Irwan Andy Purnamawan, juga dihadiri Kasat Intel Iptu Tarjono, SH. MH dan Kasubag Humas Polres Merangin Iptu Idih serta puluhan wartawan dari berbagai media.
Menjawab pertanyaan, Kapolres mengatakan meski kondisi Merangin relatif aman, namun pihak Polres telah mengantisipasi setiap  daerah rawan. Selain itu menurut Kapolres, Polres Merangin dalam mengamankan Pilkada tahun 2020, menurunkan sebagain besar anggotanya untuk terjun langsung kelapangan dan  Polres Merangin juga dibantu anggota dari  Kodim 0420/Sarko dan Brimobda Jambi.
“Kita telah mengantisipasi kemungkinan adanya hal-hal yang tidak diinginkan. Polres Merangin dalam pengamanan Pilkada juga dibantu TNI dan Brimob. Semoga sampai tahapan akhir Pilkada berjalan dengan baik,” tandas Kapolres Merangin. 
Terkait dengan semakin banyaknya warga Merangin yang tertular Covid-19, Kapolres dengan tegas akan menindak bagi mereka yang mengizinkan berkumpulnya massa yang bisa berakibat penularan covid-19 di Merangin. “ Kami tidak segan untuk mengambil tindakan kepada mereka yang memberikan izin berkumpul. Dan kami berharap semua mematuhi protokol kesehatan, “ tandasnya.
