Tradisi Betauh sudah ada di desa Perentak Pangkalan Jambu sejak dahulu, tidak dapat diketahui secara pasti kapan mulai adanya Betauh, akan tetapi masyarakat telah melaksanakan Betauh secara turun temurun..
Pada zamannya Betauh sangat popular, terutama di kalangan muda mudi, karena pada saat itulah terkadang terjalin suatu hubungan kasih sayang. Selain sebagai hiburan Betauh juga mengungkapkan rasa syukur kepada Sang Pencipta karena panen berhasil dengan baik.
Biasanya jelas Sekda, Betauh dilaksanakan pada malam hari di halaman, apabila di desa setempat diselenggarakan hajatan pernikahan maupun setelah habis melaksanakan panen raya.
Betauh dibawakan oleh gadis dan bujang di bawah pengawasan Jenang dan Penatih, sehingga walaupun Betauh juga termasuk untuk pergaulan bujang dan gadis, namun tetap diawasi tata krama dan etika mereka yang betauh tersebut.
‘’Busana yang digunakan adalah baju kurung, kain sarung lipat samping sirih serumpun dan selendang penutup kepala yang disebut tengkuluk tegendeng,’’terang Sekda dibenarkan Nek Isah.
Dalam penampilannya Betauh diiringi alat musik yang terdiri dari gedok (gendang), gong, viul dan vocal dengan lagu dendang sayang yang dibawa secara bergantian secara berbalas pantun antara bujang dan gadis.
Terpisah, menurut  Ny Isah (87 tahun), mereka Betauh bergantian seorang demi seorang, baik bujang maupun gadis. Geakan tari yang dilakukan saling berhadapan sampai acara  selesai.
‘’Jadi bukan Betauh secara bersama atau masal, tapi perorangan yang dilakukan bergantian dengan jumlah yang ingin ikut  Betauh tidak dibatasi. Betauh tidak dibatasi waktunya, namun tidak melebihi batas sebelum subuh," katanya.
