MERANGIN - Usai melakukan kunjungan kerja ke  Kodim 0420/Sarko Korem 042/Garuda Putih, Pangdam II/ Sriwijaya Mayjen TNI  Agus Suhardi, sempat diajak Bupati Merangin, H. Al Haris singgah ke rumah dinas bupati, Kamis (10/9).
Ketika akan masuk ke rumah dinas bupati, tiba-tiba langkah Pangdam terhenti tepat di pintu masuk istana rakyat Merangin tersebut. Ada apa yach? Ternyata di samping kiri pintu masuk ruang tamu rumah dinas bupati itu, Pandam melihat Fosil Sungkai Merangin.
H Al Haris menunjukan asal usul Fosil Sungai Merangin yang dipajang berdiri kokoh di muka rumah dinas bupati itu, berasal dari pohon Sungkai yang sudah membatu. ‘’Fosil Sungkai Merangin ini telah berusia ratusan tahun,’’ terang Bupati.
Dijelaskan bupati, selain sebagai pajangan bentuk asli, Fosil Sungkai dalam bentuk bongkahan batu itu, juga telah diolah menjadi furniture menarik dan bebagai asessoris khas Merangin.
‘’Saya sangat kagum dengan fosil kayu ini. Bentuknya sangat menarik sekali. Meskipun sudah menjadi batu, namun masih menggambarkan bentuk kayu sesungguhnya,’’ ujar Pandam.
Terpisah, Ketua Persit KCK PD II Sriwijaya Ny Shinta Agus Suhardi yang diajak Ketua TP PKK Merangin, Hj. Hesti Haris ke Taman Bunga Merangin Gardens, terlihat menikmati panorama yang ditawarkan.
‘’Saya sangat terpesona dengan aneka bunga-bunga indah ini dan taman ini sangat bagus sekali,’’ ujar Ny Shinta Agus Suhardi yang terus didampingi Hj Hesti Haris pemilik taman bunga tersebut.
