JAKARTA - Program keaksaraan pemerintah berjalan cukup baik. Saat ini untuk usia produktif (15-59 tahun) populasi orang buta aksara di Indonesia tinggal 2,07 persen atau sekitar 3,4 juta jiwa. Jawa Timur masih memegang juara sebagai provinsi dengan jumlah penyandang buta aksara terbanyak.
Data dari Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) dan Kemendikbud menyebutkan populasi penyandang buta aksara di Jawa Timur berjumlah 880.539 jiwa. Kemudian disusul Papua (607.879 jiwa), Jawa Tengah (471.254), Sulawesi Selatan (239.011), dan Nusa Tenggara Barat (238.879). Capaian cukup baik ada di Jawa Barat. Dari total populasi usia 15-59 tahun yang mencapai 30.436.700 jiwa, penyandang buta aksaranya hanya 106.161 jiwa (0,35 persen).
Dari sisi gender, kasus buta aksara paling banyak adalah perempuan dengan jumlah 2.258.990 jiwa. Sedangkan kasus buta aksara pada laki-laki tercatat ada 1.157.703 jiwa atau separuh dari jumlah buta aksara perempuan.
Dirjen Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini dan Pendidikan Masyarakat (PAUD-Dikmas) Kemendikbud Harris Iskandar menuturkan sesuai ketentuan acuan usia produktif, ditetapkan rentangnya mulai 15 tahun sampai 59 tahun. Jadi penyandang buta aksara yang usianya lebih dari 50 tahun, juga tetap masuk hitungan.
Dia menuturkan dalam rentang usia produktif itu, ada 3,4 juta jiwa yang masih buka aksara. Diantaranya adalah masyarakat adat atau tradisional yang tinggalnya jauh di pelosok-pelosok. Untuk kategori ini, menurut Harris menjadi tantangan tersendiri dalam program pengentasan buta aksara. Namun yang membuat lega Harris adalah, sekitar 99 persen masyarakat di usia 45 tahun ke bawah sudah melek aksara.
Harris menegaskan program literasi pemerintah tidak hanya urusan pengentasan buta aksara saja. Kemendikbud menetapkan ada enam kemampuan literasi yang dibutuhkan di abad 21 sekarang. Yakni literasi baca-tulis, literasi numerasi, literasi sains, literasi digital, literasi finansial, serta literasi budaya dan kewarganegaraan.
Literasi digital itu diantaranya adalah kemampuan dalam memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi informasi. Termasuk di dalamnya adalah keberadaan media sosial. Dengan literasi digital, diharapkan masyarakat tidak mudah terhasut dengan kabar-kabar bohong (hoax).
Menurut Harris penguatan program literasi itu tidak hanya dijalankan di sekolah saja. ’’Keluarga juga memiliki peran penting,’’ katanya. Untuk itu Kemendikbud melalui Direktorat Pembinaan Pendidikan Keluarga, memiliki program penguatan peran keluarga.
