SENGETI - Kabupaten Muaro Jambi belum bebas dari rabies. Hampir tiap tahun ditemukan adanya kasus rabies di wilayah ini. Demikian juga pada tahun ini. Tercatat sudah ada satu kasus rabies yang menimpa warga Muaro Jambi.
" Benar, Tahun ini ada satu kasus rabies. Korbannya selamat. Kasus rabies sendiri sudah jauh menurun dibanding tahun-tahun sebelumnya," kata Kepala Dinas Perkebunan dan Peternakan Muaro Jambi, Zulkarnini, Senin (5/8).
Zulkarnaini mengatakan, pihaknya sudah melakukan berbagai upaya untuk menekan terjadinya kasus rabies di Muaro Jambi. Upaya yang dilakukan itu diantaranya melakukan sosialisasi dan vaksinasi terhadap masyarakat agar memvaksin hewan peliharaannya.
" Sosialisasi dan vaksinasi rutin dilakukan. Hewan Penular Rabies (HPR) seperti anjing, kucing, kera dan hewan penular rabies lainnya kita vaksin secara gratis," kata Zulkarnaini.
Zul menyebut, Disbunnak selalu siap melayani permintaan vaksinasi HPR dari masyarakat. Warga cukup menyampikan surat permohonan ke Disbunnak dan dipastikan akan ditindak lanjuti. " Cukup ajukan permohonan saja dengan disertai alamat lengkapnya. Nanti akan saya buatkan surat tugas kepada petugas kita agar turun melakukan penyuntikan. Vaksinasinya gratis," ujarnya.
Hewan Penular Rabies, kata Zul, wajib divaksin sebanyak dua kali dalam setahun. Pemberian vaksin itu dilakukan per enam bulan. Hewan yang sudah divaksin akan dilengkapi buku keterangan. " Stok vaksinnya banyak, kita rutin mendapat bantuan vaksin dari pemerintah pusat," ujar Zul.
Zul menghimbau masyarakat Muaro Jambi agar tidak membiarkan hewan peliharaannya bebas berkeliaran. Hewan peliharaan diminta agar selalu dikurung dan divaksin secara rutin.
" Program eliminasi sudah dilarang, itu melanggar Hak asasi hewan. Makanya kita sarankan agar para pemilik hewan peliharaan yang memiliki kesadaran untuk memvaksin hewan peliharaanya," kata Zulkarnaini.
